Read every day (and everywhere)!
If you want to earn the highest grade possible on this assignment, you must finish reading your book before the end of the semester. This isn't going to happen if you start reading the day before the deadline. Manage your time wisely and plan to read every day of the semester.
In class, we created an individualized GAME PLAN. If you were absent the day we did that:
|
Look for opportunities to read your book. Instead of pulling out your phone to look at social media, pull out your book.
|
Take advantage of "Free Reads" and report your progress in class!
I will provide some opportunities for you to read in class. These will be called "Free Reads." At the beginning of the first 10-15 minutes of class, you will read for points. We won't, unfortunately, have free reads every class period. You should, nevertheless, have your book every time we meet, just in case I tell you our warm up for the day is reading silently.
I will ask you to answer a few questions afterwards, ("reports") so take the reading opportunity seriously! You will lose participation points if you don't read with us and/or do not fill out the form I give you.
Look to your syllabus to learn about my absence and tardiness policy and/or make an appointment to learn how missing these opportunities will affect your overall grade.

Review reading strategies!
Reading in English is challenging. Translating everything (at this point in your English learning) in your first language isn't only slow but it doesn't always help you with your English reading comprehension. So what can you do? That's where reviewing reading strategies will help you. I've put together a list of my favorite reading strategies. Click HERE to find them.
Remember to read with a tutor!
You are required to read your approved book in the tutoring center (preferably with a tutor). Read/work in the ASC for at least 15 minutes before asking for a tutor’s initial on your game plan. You must have at least 5 signatures before your presentation to earn full points for your game plan, only one per week.
